Daimler-Benz chose the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1979 to unveil its next-generation S-Class, offering a wide range, from the 280 S to the 156 hp to the 560 SEL (V8, injection and 240 hp). The watchwords were economy, comfort and safety as these cars were to meet increasingly stringent U.S. safety standards. To do this, engineers worked on the aerodynamics, weight and strength of the body, particularly with regards to any possible lateral impact. Despite the price of the S-Class, the W126 series beat production records with over 800,000 manufactured. The 500 is equipped with the 4.9 liter V8 engine which appeared on the 450 SLC 5.0. Almost immediately, special armored versions and versions with extended coachbuilder, by Duchatelet and Belgian Ronny Coach Building Company became a speciality of this great and powerful car.
As Duchatelet marketed its special limousines under the name \'Carat\', the Ronny Coach Building Company marketed their version under the brand name \'L\'étoile\'. They could be lengthened by 36, 90, 115 or 130 cm, to four or six doors, and seven seats. Each car was of course made to order as per the client\'s wishes, in terms of finish and equipment (materials, seats, bar, TV, consoles, etc.).
This limousine Mercedes-Benz 500 SEL L\'étoile was built in 1990 on a base of a 1987 500 SEL by the Belgian Ronny Coach Building Company, which lengthened it into a four-door limousine. Only five cars were produced. The seller\'s father, a limousine enthusiast, bought it in 1990, the year of its transformation (Ronny Schoutteet certificate from the L\'étoile firm). Since this purchase, the vehicle has travelled a mere 2500 km.
Black in colour, it is equipped with its original untransformed mechanics, alloy wheels, bespoke steering wheel, electrically controlled shelves, a bar, a television receiver, and a comprehensive Audio system. The red leather upholstery of the upholstery also dresses the headliner. In a cozy atmosphere of thick carpets, fine leather and precious wood, this limousine offers a profusion of luxurious, perfectly executed finishes, and a flawless performance, worthy of the L\'étoile brand.
Please note that the car is delivered with a certificate of the constructor l\'etoile and a Belgium custom clearance document. The seller will undertake the process to obtain a Belgium Export Title. This limo is in "as new" interior condition.
